Some people think we live in a post-racial society. But the negative responses to a Cheerios ad featuring a biracial couple shows that Americans have a long way to go before race becomes irrelevant.

Climate change calls us to change

I am praying for the people of Moore, Okla., and I prayed for the people of New Jersey affected by Super Storm Sandy. But people of faith need to put our prayers into action and change our ways. We need to do a better job of  protecting our planet.

Every woman deserves safe medical care

As a pastor, a daughter, a mother and as a member of our community, I call upon lawmakers, hospitals, universities and concerned citizens to work for safe access to medical care, including abortions and care related to possible complications.

Tolerance has its limits ... as in 9mm’s worth

I believe I am a tolerant person, but I must confess I was a bit shocked when I saw a news story on CNN yesterday about Gabby Giffords, the former congressman who was shot in the head in 2011, watching her husband, Mark Kelly, shoot a 9mm pistol in backyard target practice.
