Vatican signs financial transparency accord with U.S. officials

VATICAN CITY (RNS) In a bid to improve its checkered record on financial transparency, the Vatican has signed a cooperation agreement with the U.S. agency that fights against financial crimes. The Vatican Bank has a long history of secrecy and scandals, and it has reportedly been involved in several shady operations during the course of its history.

A different view of Christmas

Last Christmas, our friend's daughter who was adopted from Haiti observed the numerous gifts given to American children and asked, “Mom, why is it that  Santa loves the children in the United States more than the children of Haiti?” Our friend asked why she believed that to be true and her daughter replied, “Because he brings them more gifts when they already have so much.”

The Noel Project to help 500 needy families

The Noel Project, scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at the SeaGate Convention Center, is planning to help more than 500 needy families have a memorable Christmas. Since its founding 30 years ago by Rev. Tony Scott, senior pastor of the Church on Strayer, the Noel Project has helped more than 10,000 families with annual giveaways of food, toys, clothing, bicycles and more.
