Self-contained farming system

The Rev. Julian Davies explains the sefl-contained nutrition recycling system for growing plants and fish at the University Church on Hill Avenue in Toledo.Nutrient-rich water from the fish-and-frog tank cycles through to the plants, and plant matter cycles back into the tank, feeding the fish and frogs. The church uses its 8 acre lot to grow plants, fish, animals and more to provide food for Toledo's hungry. University Church will open its doors to the public for tours on July 9, the third stop on the Toledo Area Ministries 2013 Houses of Worship Summer Tours.

Ex-trafficking victim testifies

Lee Ann Campbell, who was a victim of sex trafficking at age 6, testifies before the Ohio Advisory Committee to the U.s. Commission on Civil Rights. Campbell urged the panel to help reform the legal codes that make anyone over 18 who solicits sex a criminal, saying those who were trafficked as minors are only doing what they know to do after they become adults.

Preparing Communion

Bishop Marcus Lohrmann prepares Communion during the annual conference of the Northwest Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The assembly's theme was "One in Christ: Always Being Made New," and featured disucssions on local, national and global issues. A delegation from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania attended in honor of the African denomination's 50th anniversary.

Gaston Ntambo, a pilot for the United Methodist Church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, shows off his new plane. Ntambo, 43, trained to fly in Toledo and the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church helped raise $2.1 million to buy the new jet-powered Cessna Grand Caravan for his "Wings of the Morning" aviation ministry.
