POLL: Where will the next pope will be from?

Poll: The Papal enclave in March will elect a successor to Pope Benedict XVI, who is retiring Feb. 28

With Pope Benedict's historic decision to step down from the papacy, it will be up to the world's 120 voting cardinals to elect a successor. More than half of the cardinals -- 64 -- are from Europe; 19 are from Latin America; 14 are from North America; 11 are from Africa, and 12 are from Asia and Oceana. From what region of the world do you think the next pope will be from? Do you think there is a chance of the cardinals electing the first pope from the United States?

  1. while unlikely, i’d love to see cardinal dolan of ny be elected. he’s a pat o’brien/bing crosby kinda guy. maybe its just my age but i don’t think he’d take any guff

Vatican criticizes media coverage of pope’s latest book

(RNS) The Vatican on Thursday (Nov. 29) blasted the press for focusing too narrowly on whether animals were present when Jesus was born. Theologian Jose Maria Gil Tamayo, writing in the Vatican's semiofficlal newspaper, labeled the “media confusion” as another “symptom” of the “widespread and silent marginalization of God” in contemporary society.

Vatican opens new exhibit of papal cars

A new permanent exhibition showcasing two centuries of papal travel was unveiled at the museums on Tuesday (Oct. 16). Among the items on display in the newly refurbished "Padiglione delle Carrozze" (Carriage Pavilion), there is the white, open-top 1980 Fiat Campagnola that Pope John Paul II was riding in on May 13, 1981 when he was shot and almost killed in St. Peter's Square.
