Some people believe that the ancient Mayans predicted that the world would come to an end at 11:11 a.m. on Dec. 21, 2012 — as in, today!
Some fundamentalist Christians and some other sects are also preparing for the end of the world, stockpiling food and supplies. But Simon Martin, of Penn Museum, said 2012 end of world predictions are based only on a small piece of the Mayan calendar. At a talk during the Religion Newswriters Association annual conference in October, he noted that the Mayans' thousands of ancient documents only mention 2012 twice.
Simon Martin of Penn Museum and other Mayan scholars don't believe Dec. 21 will be the end just yet. NASA scientists agree.
Are you concerned about the Mayan end-of-the-world theory, and, if so, what are you doing to prepare for it?
